We have added to our post from a December 2020 trip, and have now returned in March 2022. Of course we needed to try out Cabo Wabo for its’ margaritas, as well as a visit to a famous locale. Cabo Wabo is a nightclub and restaurant located in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Rock musician Sammy Hagar founded Cabo Wabo, and is known to hang out there when he is in town. Alas he was not there during either visit.
We were at Cabo Wabo during happy hour, where you can get two for one house margaritas, which is a typical lime margarita. We also decided to try the Waborita at the waitress’s suggestion.
We sampled the house margarita on the rocks, a house margarita frozen, and the Waborita, which was very colorful. We were not impressed with the house margarita which was very strong with lime and tequila flavors. The Waborita was very smooth and flavorful. We gave the frozen house margarita a 1 margarita glass, on the rocks house margarita a 2 margarita glass, and the Waborita a 2 1/2 margarita glass rating, but see our review for the Waborita below on our follow up visit.
Waborita – This is a second review and opinion for this drink which is made with Tequila Cabo Wabe Reposado, Damiana Liqueur, Triple Sec, Orange Liqueur, Lime Juice, and a splash of Blue Curacao. A nice looking drink with the blue and green separated in the glass. We give the Waborita a rating of 4 margarita glasses.
Santo Bandido – Santo Mezquila, Cantaloupe Liqueur, Lime Juice, Cucumber, Pineapple Juice and rimmed with Chili Mix. We liked this spicy and fresh margarita. We give it 4.5 margarita glasses.
Red Rocker – Tequila Cabo Wabo Reposado, Lime Juice, Cranberry Juice and a splash of Disaronno Amaretto. We like cranberry and lime with tequila, and we wanted to like this margarita, but it did not mix well for our taste. We give the Red Rocker a 2 out of 5 margarita glasses.
To be fair, there were a lot of choices for margaritas at Cabo Wabo which we did not have the opportunity to try. Maybe next time.
