Uncle Julio’s in Katy is a national chain restaurant with two locations in the Houston area and seven more across Texas. The restaurant faces the Katy freeway. We arrived about 5:00 PM for Happy Hour on the patio.
Amber was quick to greet us and was a great server during our visit. A nice selection of margaritas on the menu made for a difficult choice. We decided to start with the El Jefe Margarita made with Exotico Reposado Tequila, Ancho Reyes-ancho chile liqueur, fresh lime juice with a salt and pepper rim.
The El Jefe is a very good margarita, a nice blend with the reposado and chile liqueur. The Great Margarita Hunt has a 5 scale rating and we were pleasantly surprised to give the El Jefe 4.5 margarita glasses. This is a margarita worth repeating.
Two new margaritas with our appetizer. The Tres Amigos Margarita made with Casamigus Blanco and Reposado Tequila, Contreau, lime juice topped with a shot of Casamigos Añejo Tequila. This is an interesting margarita with the shot on the top in the lime. Basically a shot to sip with a margarita chaser. Strong and good, we gave the Tres Amigos a rating of 3.5 margarita glasses.
Julio’s Gold is the house special margarita. A nice margarita, we give Julio’s Gold 3.5 margarita glasses.
The El Jefe and the great service make Uncle Julio’s one of our favorites of 2020.
