It is Friday in Austin and we are meeting family at Tequila Bar and Grill in Round Rock, Texas. It was busy but there wasn’t a wait. The décor honored the restaurant’s name. An empty tequila bottle in the center of each table offered a QR code to access the menu.
The tequila and margaritas are not listed on the online menu. We asked and received a drink menu offering a good selection of margaritas and tequilas appropriate for a tequila bar. As usual, we ordered a frozen house margarita and the Perfect Margarita was our top shelf selection. The house margarita is not a contender for The Great Margarita Hunt. We give the house 2.5 margarita glasses.
2.5 margarita glasses for the House Frozen
The Perfect Margarita is made with Ambhar Tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, sweet and sour, and a splash of orange juice. At $10.00 this is a nice margarita, balanced with the tequila and the orange. We give the Perfect Margarita four margarita glasses.
Blackberry Margarita and Sunrise en Vallarta
The Blackberry Margarita made with Herradura Tequila Reposado, fresh lime juice, blackberry liquor, and sweet and sour is refreshing and nicely balanced, not too sweet or sour. The fresh blackberry garnish is a plus and secures a rating of four margarita glasses.
Sunrise en Vallarta piqued our interest with Hornitos Tequila, Peach Schnapps, orange juice, and cranberry juice. This margarita is a little on the sweet side and the flavors and tequila did not blend as well as we hoped. The Sunrise en Vallarta receives three margarita glasses.
Our group also tried the Spicy Margarita with Jimador Tequila, Gran Gala, fresh jalapeños, fresh lime juice, sweet and sour, and orange juice. It is good with enough spice to live up to it’s name. We give the Spicy Margarita 3.5 margarita glasses.
The Mango Margarita should have been a win. Likely mixed with the house margarita which was not a favorite, the Mango Margarita received a three margarita glass rating.
Can you guess what is in the Patron Margarita? The menu states only two per person. Made with Patron Silver, President Brandy, Grand Marnier, agave, orange juice, sweet and sour, and fresh lime juice, we should have liked this margarita. It is average with a rating of three margarita glasses.
Tequila Bar & Grill is a neighborhood place with a large tequila selection. The Perfect Margarita and the Blackberry Margarita are worthy of a spot on the menu and The Great Margarita Hunt map. The house margarita, not so much.

The hunt continues…..
