The Great Margarita Hunt

La Marisquera Ostioneria

House Rita

Grand Añejo

Watermelon Margarita

Pepino Caliente

Our first visit to this restaurant located on Westheimer. There are two other locations: one off the Sam Houston Parkway near Willowbrook, and another in Conroe. Walking in the door we noticed the Los Cocos sticker on the door. We didn’t realize La Marisquera is part of the Los Cuco’s family. A large menu of food options with a few oyster choices and a selection of ceviche were as expected in a Mexican Seafood restaurant. We are here to try margaritas and the drink menu had a good selection – what should we try first? We always order the house margarita, usually frozen to compare with all the ones that have come before. So, one frozen House Rita and the Grand Añejo. Looking at the drink menu we recognized some of the same margaritas from the Los Cuco’s menu. It will be interesting to compare how we reviewed the same margarita.
The house margarita was good. At $7.49, we thought it was a little high for the small frozen. We give the house margarita 3 margarita glasses out of 5.
The Grand Añejo is made with Don Julio Añejo tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice, and organic agave nectar. We tried it on the rocks and found the orange forward; it’s a very smooth margarita and very nice. At first we thought there might be orange juice in the drink. The Don Julio Añejo makes a deceptively smooth margarita. If you like this orange forward margarita, you could easily drink two or three on the rocks before realizing you are snockered. The Grand Añejo is an expensive margarita at $14.99. The premium tequila justifies the price of the Grand Añejo and this well blended margarita receives a 4.5 margarita glass rating.
Next up, the Watermelon Margarita is nicely presented with a large slice of watermelon and a few small cubes of watermelon in the lightly sugared rimmed glass. Made with Exòtico Silver Tequila, Watermelon Monin, and fresh lemon and lime juices. We enjoyed this margarita even better once it had melted some and was mixed a bit, blending the flavors together. We give the $10.99 Watermelon Margarita 4.5 margarita glasses.
Toward the end of our meal we decided to try one more, with only a sip for our designated driver. The Pepino Caliente has muddled jalapeño and cucumber with Avion Silver tequila, organic agave nectar, and fresh lime juice. This is a combination we should like. Maybe it was the chamoy added to the tajin rimmed glass, or a bit too much lime juice, but regardless, this was not the best way to end our meal. We left a full glass of the Pepin Caliente and give this margarita a  1.5 margarita glass rating.
We must mention the fish was cooked perfectly, and the ceviche nicely prepared. The chips and tostada were not fresh. Our visit fell between lunch and happy hour when there were more staff than customers. Next time, we will ask for fresh chips and let you know if they are better. It’s in the restaurant’s best interest to provide good chips. After all, the more you eat, the more you drink!
Service was good and with two margaritas rated at 4+ margarita glasses, we would return to try another margarita and enjoy the seafood.

The hunt continues…..
