El Rey is the kind of place full of locals who look like they know where to find good Mexican food. Good food does not always mean a good margarita.
We ordered the House Frozen Margarita and gave it a rating of 3 out of 5 margarita glasses out of appreciation for the overall service and food.
The sweet and sour mix margarita is never a favorite of The Great Margarita Hunt. El Rey offers many tequila options.
The sweet and sour mix overcomes the Top Shelf made with Don Julio. A good margarita needs fresh lime juice, and a Top Shelf needs top-shelf ingredients beyond the tequila. This Top Shelf has a hefty pour, but we give it a 2.5 rating for overall taste.
Lunch was good. If you are in Dripping Springs, stop by El Rey for the food, and if you want a decent margarita, order the house and the Top Shelf and mix them. Mixed together, you get a 3.5 margarita.
