Blue Margarita

In addition to our local favorites, we are visiting restaurants with takeout margaritas that we have yet to review. This week’s takeout margarita is from El Patio, 6444 Westheimer Rd, Houston, just down the road from my old office, yet I had never visited. There are plenty of restaurants in this area, and this little strip center has not had a facelift in some time. As we pulled in, we saw restaurant staff delivering a takeout bag to a waiting car. It was reassuring to see the staff using face masks and gloves, along with their restaurant uniforms.

A waiter stepped out of the restaurant and looked our way. I gave him my name, and within four minutes, two employees brought our food and margaritas to the car.

El Patio is the third establishment we visited that has brought the standard restaurant check folder to the car. All the safety precautions we are following are not as effective when I put my hand on something handled by multiple people. I pay in advance by phone to avoid handing my credit card to someone, so the folder isn’t my favorite thing. I did use hand sanitizer right away, but I will be better prepared with gloves when we go for Takeout Thursday next week.

Now, what about the margaritas and the food?

We brought home a quart of the house margarita $22.50 and a quart of the blue margaritas $25.00. El Patio also offers top-shelf margaritas by the gallon. The house margarita was good and received a 3 ½ margarita glass score. The blue margarita was more of a house margarita with a floater of blue curaçao. It was okay and received three margarita glasses. You can see the rating when you click on the margarita glass marker on the map found on our home page.

Our focus is on margaritas, and we don’t always rate the food. El Patio offered a to-go menu and their full menu. That is a plus, and we enjoyed everything, the enchiladas were good, and the Chile Relleno ranchera sauce was delicious. The small guacamole was small, but tasty enough that we would have like more. We like the green salsa, too.

We would like to return once the restaurant is once again open to the public. There are several menu items we would like to try and we want to try the top-shelf margaritas.

The hunt continues…
