The Great Margarita Hunt

Toro’s Place

House Margarita

Mezcal Margarita

Our last stop on a 7 day cruise was in Cozumel. We decided to make a change in our activities because of some rain. That decision led us to Toro’s Place on the Avenida Rafael E. Melgar. Enter the bright yellow building through a small doorway and head up the stairs. You will appreciate the view once inside the restaurant. We ordered a traditional margarita and found it to be a good house margarita with a 3 1/2 margarita glass rating. As we enjoyed the margarita and the view we could see the Disney Magic at the Punta Langosta pier.
House Margarita
Just before we started to leave our server brought us another margarita to taste. One sip and we knew we had something different. Is it the tequila, or a liquor added? Another sip and we were intrigued: what is this subtle warmth blended with fresh lime? Our host, Toro, introduced himself and revealed the surprise ingredient. Can you guess? It is a good Mezcal. We were surprised and delighted to try this interesting blend of flavors and find a new margarita, and change our previous opinion of mezcal cocktails. We give the Mezcal Margarita a 4 margarita glass rating. As with all cocktails, the quality of the ingredients will determine the quality of the drink. We learned at Toro’s Place to expand the hunt to include Mezcal cocktails and plan a return visit to taste craft Mezcal which is not currently available in the United States. The margaritas, the view and the great service make Toro’s Place our kind of place.

The hunt continues….
