The Great Margarita Hunt

House Frozen

El Jefe

The Julio

The Burro

We arrived during happy hour on a Friday. True to the times we are living, it was not at all busy. We were seated at a table tucked away, and there was plenty of distance between tables.
The first two margaritas were the House Frozen and the evening’s special margarita, the El Jefe. At $5.95 the house margarita is really good. A well rounded traditional frozen margarita at a great price, we gave the Guadalajara House Margarita a rating of four margarita glasses. This is a good rating for a house margarita.
Guadalajara House Margarita
The El Jefe is not on the menu. It is a top shelf margarita made with Jose Cuervo Tradicional Añejo, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar. It was served in a shaker with an ice filled glass. Our server did not shake the plastic shaker or pour into the glass. We have a bit of experience with cocktail shakers, so we were able to handle it on our own.
El Jefe
We have enjoyed the El Jefe at several different restaurants and bars, unfortunately, this version did not match up. A premium tequila should make a smooth cocktail and there was a slight bitter taste. We gave the El Jefe a rating of three margarita glasses.
Next up, we tried The Julio made with Don Julio Añejo, orange juice, and orange liqueur. At $12.95, this should be really good, and it was, although some might think the orange is a bit too heavy. We liked it. A smooth cocktail that does justice to the tequila. We gave The Julio a rating of four margarita glasses.
The Julio
The Burro
Last on our list of margaritas is The Burro, made with Espolon Reposado, Ancho Reyes, fresh lime juice, and ginger beer. This is an interesting drink, much like a Moscow Mule, with the ginger beer and Ancho Reyes nicely blended. We give The Burro a rating of four margarita glasses. The Burro is a good choice when you are interested in exploring tequila cocktails.
We focus on the margaritas, but we typically eat a meal and sometimes the food stands out as it did during this visit. The lime beef fajita meat is excellent and we enjoyed the charro beans. The service was prompt and we really liked the music with a chill Latin vibe mixed with some traditional at 6PM. About 7PM we were listening to 80s music and The Cars. The latter playlist did not enhance the atmosphere.
The great price on the house margarita during happy hour, the interesting tequila cocktails and tequila selection put Guadalajara’s on our list of places we can recommend.

The hunt continues…..
